Mountain short films - The winners

OUTRIGHT WINNER

Stations

Motivations behind the award

Stations: the reality of the mountains and of the ski stations is recounted in an unconventional way, with extremely long overviews of strong visual impact, that tend to render abstract the elements represented. There is an extremely strong alternation between the presence and absence of man, placing emphasis on the majestic presence of the mountains but also on the traces left by the passage of human beings. The editing is handled down to the finest detail, including the sound, and the composition of the individual images is meticulous, giving life to a suggestive work that captures our attention from beginning to end.

SECOND PLACE

The Pinnacle of Rush

Motivations behind the award

The Pinnacle of Rush: an insistent and adrenaline-filled rhythm introduces the viewer to the world of extreme snow sports, presenting the dualism between enjoyment and risk. The interviews narrate the relationship between sportspeople and danger, and it is perhaps the very sensation of recklessness that keeps the viewer from identifying himself with them.

THIRD PLACE

Carano is not Pamplona

Motivations behind the award

Carano non è Pamplona: the viewer at once comes face to face with the rarely recounted reality of the transhumance, here presented in an objective and brutal way. The editing does not observe the narrative conventions but shows us the transfer of the herds as it happens, without myths or superfluous detail.
